Plenty of service orgs on campus. Why choose SEAL?

  • We branch out.

When we say EXPAND American Literacy, we really mean it. Every year, we increase the number of schools we serve. But, we can't continue to grow without you. Join us to be part of this growth in helping K-5 kiddos across Austin!

  • We innovate.

Here at SEAL, everyone's a leader. Our committee system allows SEAL members to make meaningful contributions to the organization's structure, while gaining leadership experience in various different disciplines, including Marketing, Development/Financial, Outreach, Operations, Service, and others!

  • Seal By Your Side.

Multiple of our schools in Manor, TX did not have a librarian due to COVID-19 budgeting restrictions. As an organization, we put in hundreds of hours to constructing a Little Free Library for our schools that'll serve our kids till the end of time. Through our Seal By Your Side program, we plan to continue serving our schools in ways outside of SEALs traditional volunteering program.

  • When we see needs, we act on them immediately.

When we found out in February 2022 that some of our kiddos tragically lost their home in a fire, we acted on it. Our entire organization spent days tabling for the affected families, and raised over $1,500 for the two affected families. We used this money to buy vital supplies and food for the family.

  • We bond.

While volunteering is a large part of the SEAL experience, that's not all of it. SEALs regularly spend time getting to know one another at the plethora of social events we host throughout the year. At our first ever volunteer retreat in September of 2021, SEALs got to bask in the sun with some fun and unforgettable activities!

  • We read.

As a literacy organization, our goal is not just to read to our kids, but to instill a love of reading in them. Volunteering with K-5 kiddos is far from the "aha" moments that are glorified in popular media, but our volunteers describe SEAL as one of the most rewarding experiences of their college career. There is quite nothing like seeing your buddies reading improve over the course of the year.
